abstract The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:1081628/C2/1> wherein X is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical and their preparation by refluxing the 3-p-toluenesulphonate of glycyrrhetinic acid or an alkyl ester thereof with acetic acid and an anhydrous alkali metal acetate, pouring the reaction mixture into water, separating the precipitate, refluxing with acetic acid, pouring the reaction mixture into water and extracting with ether.
