abstract | Compositions comprise polyethylene having uniformly dispersed therein a copper powder of particle size less than 50 mesh in amount of 5 to 30 volume per cent of the composition, and 0.1 to 2.0 weight per cent of the copper of a copper chelating agent. The copper may be pure copper or a copper rich alloy, e.g. with up to 10% of tin. Specified chelating agents are N,N1 - disalicylidene - 1,2 - propane diamine, salicylaldoxime, N-salicylidene-o-aminophenol, 2,21,41 - trihydroxyazobenzene and N,N1, N11, N111 - tetrasalicylidene tetra(aminomethyl)-methane. The compositions may be moulded and cross-linked by irradiation or with organic peroxides to form self-lubricating bearings. |
