titleOfInvention Steroid dehydrosulfonylation
abstract The invention comprises a process for the dehydrosulphonylation of a steroid having a 12-sulphonyloxy group to form a D 11-steroid by reaction with a metal glycolate of a polyethylene glycol monoalkyl ether having a molecular weight of at least 200 in the presence of a non-hydroxylic solvent, followed, if desired, by esterification of carboxy or hydroxy groups. 3 a - Hydroxy - 12a - benzenesulphonyloxy-or p-toluenesulphonyloxy-cholanic acids are prepared by hydrolysis of their 3-acetoxy-methyl esters. 3a - Ethoxycarbonyloxy - 12a - benzene-sulphonyloxy- or p-toluenesulphonyloxy-pregnan-20 -one-ethylene ketals are prepared by successive reaction of the corresponding 3a ,12a -diol with ethyl chlorocarbonate and a sulphonyl chloride.
