abstract | Fuel oil compositions contain as additives (a) 0.0025-2.0 wt per cent of a quaternary ammonium salt, and (b) 0.005-2.0 wt. per cent of one of the following:-an aliphatic secondary or tertiary amine, a dialiphatic-beta-aminopropionaldehyde, an aliphatic secondary amineformaldehyde reaction product, or an N-alkyl diamine. Additive (a) may be a compound represented by one of the formulae <FORM:1078497/C4-C5/1> <FORM:1078497/C4-C5/2> where R is a C8- 22 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical; R1 is hydrogen, a cyanoethyl radical, a C1- 5 alkyl radical, or an alkylaryl radical; R11 is a C1- 5 alkyl radical, an alkaryl or aryl radical, a cyanoethyl radical, or a tertiaryamino alkyl radical; n is an integer of 1-10; and X is an anion, e.g. nitrite, halogen, sulphate, alkyl sulphate, oleate, palmitate, stearate, benzoate, or an organic or inorganic phosphate. The oil may be a gas oil, a fuel oil, a diesel fuel, a furnace oil, a burner oil, or kerosene. |
