abstract | Compounds of the formula <FORM:1077873/C2/1> and <FORM:1077873/C2/2> wherein R2 represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or aryl group, a terpenyl group or a heterocyclyl group; R5, R6, R7, R8, R9 and R10 each represents a hydrogen atom, a chlorine atom, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or aryl group, a heterocyclyl group, an amino or substituted amino group, a carbonamido group, a sulphonamido group, a carbamyl group, a sulphamyl group or a carboxyl group; and W represents the non-metallic elements necessary to complete a 5- or 6-membered ring, are prepared by monoacylating the 4-hydroxy of a hydroquinone of the general formula <FORM:1077873/C2/3> OR <FORM:1077873/C2/4> if necessary protecting the 1-hydroxy group by means of a group which can be split off by, for example, catalytic hydrogenation after the acylation reaction. Specified compounds prepared in this manner are 1-hydroxy-4-stearoyloxy-2-naphthoic acid, 1-hydroxy-4-acetoxy-N-[d - (2,4 - di - tert. - amylphenoxy) - n - butyl]-2 - naphthamide, 1 - hydroxy - 4 - acetoxy - N - n - octadecyl - 31,51 - dicarboxy - 2 - naphthanilide, and 6-acetamido-2-chloro-4-[2,4-tert.-amylphenoxy)acetoxy] -3-methylphenol. 5 - Acetamido - 4 - benzyloxy - 3 - chloro - 2 - methylphenol is prepared by refluxing 5- acetamido - 3 - chloro - 2 - methylhydroquinone with a -bromotoluene. 2 - Benzyloxy - 3 - chloro - 5 - [(2,4 - di - tert.- amylphenoxy)acetoxy] - 4 - methylacetanilide is prepared by reacting 5-acetamido-4-benzyloxy - 3 - chloro - 2 - methylphenol with (2,4-di -tert.-amylphenoxy)acetic anhydride. |
