titleOfInvention Methine dyes
abstract The invention relates to merocyanine dyes of the formula <FORM:1077299/C4-C5/1> wherein R1 and R2 are hydrogen or halogen e.g. chlorine, R3 is an alkyl radical, n is 1 or 2 and z represents the atoms necessary to complete a heterocyclic nucleus containing 5 or 6 atoms in the heterocyclic ring, e.g. a thiazoline, 1 - ethyl - 5,6 - dichloro - benzimidazole, 1-ethyl - 5 - cyano - benzimidazole or pyrroline nucleus. In the examples dyes are prepared by reacting 4-oxo-3,4-dihydro-1H-1,4-thiazino [4,3-a]benzimidazole or the 7,8-dichloro derivative thereof with the appropriate 2-b -acetanilido or b -p-toluenesulphonalido substituted quaternary salt.ALSO:7,8 - Dichloro - 4 - oxo - 3,4 - dihydro - 1H-1,4 - thiazino - [4,3-a], benzimidazole is prepared by forming (5,6-dichloro-2-benzimidazolyl)-methane thiol by reacting 4,5-dichloro-o-phenylene diamine with thioglycollic acid in acid medium, reacting the product in alkali with chloracetic acid to give (5,6-dichloro-2-benzimidazolyl)-methyl thioacetic acid and cyclizing the latter produce in acetic anhydride.
