titleOfInvention | Process for the production of hydroxy-methyl-substituted organosiloxanes |
abstract | An organosiloxane which contains at least one unit of the formula <FORM:1076439/C3/1> in which m is 1 or 2, any remaining units being of the formula <FORM:1076439/C3/2> in which n is 1, 2 or 3, and each R is an alkyl or aryl radical, is made by reacting an acyloxymethylsilicon compound which is either a silane of the formula <FORM:1076439/C3/3> or a siloxane containing at least one unit of the formula <FORM:1076439/C3/4> any remaining units having the formula <FORM:1076439/C3/5> in which formulae R1 is H, CH3, C2H5, C3H7 or C4H9 and R11 is OCH3, OC2H5, OC3H7 or OC(O)R1, at a temperature between 0 DEG and 100 DEG C., with an alkali metal borohydride and with BF3, BCl3, BBr3 or a silane of the formula RaSiCl4- a, in which a is 0, 1, 2 or 3, hydrolysing the primary product so obtained with an aqueous mineral acid or an alkali metal hydroxide solution, and recovering the hydrolysate. The reaction is preferably effected in an inert solvent or diluent, e.g. tetrahydrofuran, tetrahydropyran and diglycoldimethylether. Examples of the above process are given. Uses-as intermediates for the preparation of esters, urethanes, acetals and polyethersiloxanes and for the modification of polyesters and polyurethanes. |
