abstract The invention comprises S-amino-isothioureas of the general formula <FORM:1074760/C2/1> in which R1 is a cycloalkyl radical or a phenyl radical which may be substituted by halogen, alkyl and/or alkoxy; R2 and R3, which may be the same or different, are hydrogen atoms or alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy or cycloalkyl radicals, with the proviso that one of them is other than hydrogen; and R4 and R5, which may be the same or different, are hydrogen atoms or alkyl, cycloalkyl, or phenyl radicals with the proviso that one of them is other than hydrogen, or R4 and R5 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a heterocyclic ring. The new compounds may be prepared by reacting an isothiourea of formula <FORM:1074760/C2/2> with an alkali metal hypochlorite in the presence of an amine of the general formula <FORM:1074760/C2/3>ALSO:S-amino-isothioureas of the general formula <FORM:1074760/A5-A6/1> in which R1 is a cycloalkyl radical or a phenyl radical which may be substituted by halogen, alkyl and/or alkoxy; R2 and R3, which may be the same or different, are hydrogen atoms or alkyl, alkenyl alkoxy or cycloalkyl radicals, with the proviso that one of them is other than hydrogen; and R4 and R5, which may be the same or different, are hydrogen atoms or alkyl, cycloalkyl or phenyl radicals with the proviso that one of them is other than hydrogen, or R4 and R5 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a heterocyclic ring, may be used as herbicides. They may be used in solutions, emulsions, suspensions, powders, pastes and granules in conjunction with conventional liquid or solid extenders.
