titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to the chemical modification and hardening of gelatin |
abstract | Gelatin for use in photographic materials is hardened by treating the gelatin with an aqueous solution of succinaldehyde, e.g. at pH 4-6 or adding succinaldehyde to an aqueous solution of gelatin which is maintained at a pH greater than 6 and keeping the solution above this pH for at least twice the time taken for the viscosity of the gelatin solution to reach its maximum value; and in the former case simultaneously or subsequently and in the latter case subsequently heating the gelatin with formaldehyde, mucochloric acid or chrome alum. After hardening both gelatin films are treated with hydroxylamine sulphate neutralizer. |
