titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to the setting of cements |
abstract | Hydraulic cements, and concrete mixes prepared therefrom, contain, as a combined setting accelerator and metal corrosion inhibitor, a mixture of calcium formate with benzoic acid or an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, or ammonium salt of chromic, benzoic, or nitrous acid. Typical salts are sodium chromate, calcium benzoate, and sodium nitrite. The cement is preferably Portland cement, and typical concrete mixes also contain sand and gravel. The cement compositions are particularly suitable for making concretes containing metal reinforcements. |
