titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to compositions for the preservation of plywood, timber, fibre board, chipboard and like materials
abstract Wood is treated with a composition comprising a stable oil-in-water dispersion containing 0.1-4% by wt. hydrocarbon waxes, 0.005-0.4% by wt. of one or more emulsifiers, 0-0.4% by wt. of one or more stabilisers, 1-10% by wt. of a "metal-chrome-arsenate" type preservative containing 25-50% by wt. of one or more Cu and/or Zn salts, 25-50% by wt. of one or more alkali chromates or dichromates, and 25-45% by wt. of one or more arsenic compounds, and water. The hydrocarbon wax may be paraffin wax or a chlorinated hydrocarbon wax. The emulsifier may be a cationic or non-ionic surfactant. The stabiliser may be cetyl alcohol and the composition may include sodium stearate and/or a foam inhibitor e.g. "Silcolapse" (Registered Trade Mark) wood, which may be in the form of plywood, chipboard or fibreboard, may be preserved and rendered water-repellent by impregnation with the above composition using vacuum pressure impregnation techniques.ALSO:A water-repellent wood preservative composition comprises a stable oil-in-water dispersion containing 0.1-4% by wt. hydrocarbon waxes, 0.005-0.4% by wt. of one or more emulsifiers, 0-0.4% by wt. of one or more stabilisers, 1-10% by wt. of a "metal-chrome-arsenate" type preservative containing 25-50% by wt. of one or more Cu and/or Zn salts, 25-50% by wt. of one or more alkali chromates or dichromates, and 25-45% by wt. of one or more arsenic compounds, and water. The hydrocarbon wax may be paraffin wax or a chlorinated hydrocarbon wax. The emulsifier may be a cationic or nonionic surfactant. The stabiliser may be cetyl alcohol. Sodium stearate may be included in the composition, as well as a foam inhibitor e.g. "Silcolapse" (the word "silcolapse" is a Registered Trade Mark). Wood, which may be in the form of plywood, chipboard, or fibreboard, may be preserved and rendered water-repellent by impregnation with the above composition using vacuum pressure impregnation techniques.
