titleOfInvention Improvements in and relating to the preparation of polyurethanes
abstract A polyurethane is prepared by reacting together, in stoichiometric amounts, a piperazine component viz. piperazine, 2-methyl piperazine, 2,5-dimethyl piperazine and/or 2,3,5,6-tetramethyl piperazine, with the bis-chloroformates of both a polyalkylene ether glycol and an aliphatic diol of M.W. below 200 in molar proportions from substantially 2:1 to 1:3, respectively, wherein either the polyalkylene ether glycol bischloroformate component or the diol bischloroformate component is first reacted with up to 1 molar excess of the piperazine component, and then the resulting product is reacted in a second step with the other bischloroformate component and any remaining piperazine component. The diol may be 1,4-butane diol, neopentyl glycol or 1,4-dimethylol cyclohexane. The process may be effected in the presence of a solvent and the second step may be effected in the presence of an excess of an acid acceptor, e.g. Na2CO3.
