titleOfInvention Isoxazole compounds and salts thereof
abstract Compounds of the general formula <FORM:1068759/C2/1> (wherein A represents an alkylene group containing not more than five carbon atoms, and R and R1 each represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing not more than five carbon atoms or R + R1 together represent a tetramethylene, pentamethylene, hexamethylene, oxatetramethylene, oxapentamethylene, oxahexamethylene, azatetramethylene, azapentamethylene, azahexamethylene, thiatetramethylene, thiapentamethylene or thiahexamethylene group), their acid addition salts and quaternary ammonium salts of those compounds in which the RR1N- group is tertiary amino group are prepared by reducing a compound of the formula <FORM:1068759/C2/2> with a metal hydride complex in an inert solvent, optionally followed by acid addition or quaternary ammonium salt formation. The preparation of a number of starting materials and of 3-phenyl-5-chloroacetylisoxazole is described. The compounds of the invention are antipyretic, analgesic, antitussive and anti-inflammatory agents, and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them together with a carrier.
