titleOfInvention Novel pharmacologically active steroid compounds of the pregnane series, process fortheir preparation, and pharmaceutical compositions containing them
abstract Novel 21 - (dicyclohexylmethoxy) - carbonyloxy-20-oxo-steroids of the pregnane series are obtained in a process in which a 21-hydroxy-20-oxo-steroid of the partial general formula St-CO-CH2OH (wherein St represents a steroid nucleus) is reacted with dicyclohexylmethyl chloroformate in the presence of a tertiary base, to form the corresponding 21-(dicyclo-hexylmethoxy)-carbonyloxy-20-oxo -steroid. The starting dicyclohexylmethyl chloroformate may be obtained by reacting dicyclohexyl carbinol with phosgene in the presence of a base, e.g. dimethylaniline. Pharmaceutical compositions having anti-inflammatory activity and containing the above compounds are administered by injection, topically or rectally.
