abstract The invention relates to substituted a -naphthoxy acetamides of a general formula <FORM:1066606/C2/1> in which R1 is hydrogen or an alkyl group containing 1-6 carbon atoms, and R2 and R3, which may be the same or different, are hydrogen atoms, alkyl groups containing 1-6 carbon atoms or alkenyl groups. Examples of many compounds claimed per se are: N,N-dimethyl a -naphthoxyacetamide, N,N-diethyl 2(a -naphthoxy) - propionamide, N - n - propyl a - naphthoxyacetamide, N - isopropyl 2(a - naphthoxy) - butyramide, N,N - dipropenyl 2(a - naphthoxy)-propionamide. Examples are given of the preparation of the first four compounds by reacting a -naphthol with N,N-dimethyl chloroacetamide, N,N-diethyl a -bromopropionamides, N-isopropyl 2-bromobutyramide and by reacting ethyl a -naphthoxy acetate with n-propylamine.ALSO:Herbicidal compositions comprise as active ingredient substituted a naphthaoxyacetamides of the general formula <FORM:1066606/A5-A6/1> in which R1 is hydrogen or an alkyl group containing 1-6 carbon atoms and R2 and R3, which may be the same or different, are hydrogen atoms, alkyl groups containing 1-6 carbon atoms or alkenyl groups with solid or liquid diluents. Examples of many specified active ingredients are N,N-dimethyl a -naphthoxyacetamide, N,N-diethyl 2(a -napthoxy)-propionamide, N-n-propyl a -napthoxyacetamide, N-isopropyl 2(a -napthoxy)- butyramide, N,N-dipropenyl 2(a -napthoxy)-propionamide.
