titleOfInvention Water-soluble derivatives of acylphenyl-acylamino-1,3-propanediols
abstract Novel water-soluble acylphenylacylamino-1,3-propane-diols of Formula I <FORM:1065126/C2/1> wherein R is an alkyl, cyclopentyl, cyclohexyl or phenyl group, and R2 is a palmitoyl, palmitoyloxyacetyl or hemi-succinoyl group, are prepared by reacting an acylphenyl-acylamino-1,3-propanediol with succinic anhydride at about 80 DEG C. in the presence of substantially anhydrous pyridine over a period of about three hours, or by reacting the acylphenyl-acylamino - 1,3 - propanediol with palmitoyl or palmitoyloxyacetyl chloride at low temperature in anhydrous pyridine.ALSO:Therapeutic compositions, useful as urinary antiseptics which may be administered orally, contain as active ingredient compounds of formula <FORM:1065126/A5-A6/1> wherein R is an alkyl, cyclohexyl, cyclopentyl or phenyl group, and R2 is palmitoyl, palmitoyloxyacetyl or hemi-succinoyl, in association with a pharmaceutical carrier or other urinary antiseptics such as methenamine mandelate or other chemo-therapeutic agents such as sulpha drugs, the nitrofurans and colistin derivatives.
