titleOfInvention | Extended protein glues |
abstract | An aqueous protein glue contains one part by weight of a proteinaceous glue base, from 0.05 to 0.3 part by weight of calcium hydroxide, from 0.05 to 0.35 part by weight of alkali metal silicate and from 0.2 up to 3 parts by weight of a finely divided, water-insoluble polyvalent metal carbonate. The protein may be the flour of soybean, peanut, cottonseed, linseed, sesame seed, castor oil bean, sunflower seed or safflower see, or milk casein, hide or bone glue, blood albumin, gelatine, fish glue or egg albumin. The carbonate may be calcium, magnesium, manganese, cadmium, barium, nickel, zinc, lead or cupric carbonate or a carbonate mineral such as limestone, dolomite, magnesite, calcite, or aragonite. The compositions may optionally contain up to 0.15 part by weight of alkali metal hydroxide. |
