titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to live cell diluent
abstract A freezable preservative and extender diluent for live animal cells such as semen, germ plasma, bone marrow cells, and muscle or artery tissue cells, comprises a mixture of a proteinaceous material, a buffering agent and a combination of polysaccharides, the mixture in a water solution having a pH value of 6 to 7.5 and an osmotic pressure of 225 to 350 milliosmoles. The preferred proteinaceous material is a liquid extract of spray-dried egg yolks but blood may also be used. Where blood is the material being preserved, further addition of proteinaceous material is unnecessary. Suitable sources of polysaccharides are the partial hydrolysis products of naturally occurring starches.
