abstract Novel hydrazine derivatives of the general formula <FORM:1062389/C2/1> wherein X represents a lower-alkyl group and Y represents the cation of an inorganic or organic acid are obtained by reacting 1-(p-formyl-benzyl)-2-methyl-hydrazine or an acid addition salt thereof with a semicarbazide of the formula <FORM:1062389/C2/2> or an acid addition salt thereof in the presence of an acid agent and, if desired, converting the resulting acid addition salt by neutralization and reaction with a different acid into a different acid addition salt. Pharmaceutical compositions having cytostatic activity and containing the above compounds are administered as tablets, dragees, suppositories, capsules, solutions, suspensions or emulsions.
