titleOfInvention Means for detecting the fertile period
abstract A stable complex of mannitol and hydrogen peroxide, which is soluble in 1.5% aq. H2O2, is formed when 10 g. of mannitol is dissolved in 100 c.c. of 3% H2O2, mixed for 10 mins., and precipitated by adding acetone.ALSO:A composition for determining the fertile period of a female by testing saliva or cervical mucus, comprises as the only reactive ingredients; (a) a mannitol-hydrogen peroxide complex and (b) a non-toxic organic compound forming a coloured oxidation product in the presence of oxygen released from peroxide. The ingredients may be impregnated on a bibulous material such as paper, cloth or wood. Specified indicators are guaiac, o-tolidine, dianisidine, phenylene diamine and 2:7-diaminofluorene dihydrochloride. In the Example solutions comprising (a) methyl cellulose, and ethyl and propylalcohols, (b) a mannitol-hydrogen peroxide complex in dilute hydrogen peroxide, (c) a polyoxyethylene derivative of sorbitan and guaiac in ethyl alcohol and (d) sodium citrate, citric acid and ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid, are combined and impregnated into filter paper.
