titleOfInvention Polymeric coating compositions
abstract A dispersion in a volatile liquid of a tetrafluoroethylene polymer and a vinylidene chloride copolymer, the ratio of the weights of the tetrafluoroethylene polymer and the vinylidene chloride copolymer being in the range 9: 1 to 1: 19 and the vinylidene chloride copolymer itself containing 95 to 70% by weight of vinylidene chloride and 5 to 30% by weight of a copolymerizable monomer is used as a coating composition (see Division B2). The volatile liquid is preferably water. The exemplified vinylidene chloride copolymer is a terpolymer of vinylidene chloride, acrylonitrile and acrylic acid.ALSO:A polymeric coating composition, for coating metals, wood, textiles, paper, plastics and glass comprises a dispersion in a volatile liquid of a tetra fluoroethylene polymer and a vinylidene chloride copolymer (see Division C3). The preferred volatile liquid is water but may be an organic solvent. The compositions may be applied by dipping, spraying, brushing or airknife or doctor-knife coating, and the composition is dried on the surface at a temperature between room temperature and 180 DEG C. Substrates mentioned are paper, cardboard, leather, woven materials derived from natural fibres such as cotton, wool or from synthetic fibres, asbestos and glass fibres, and various articles of wood, plastics, metal. The examples include coated aluminium plaques, polished chromium plated brass plates, nitrile rubber conveyor belts, polyethylene terephthalate film and fabric, polypropylene and nylon sheets, beakers moulded from wood filled urea-formaldehyde plastics, wire cable, heating elements, aluminium coffee percolator, copper bullet heads.
