titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to the treatment of photographic emulsion layers
abstract 1,061,053. Processing photographic silver halide emulsions. OZALID CO. Ltd., A. J. O. AXFORD and F. S. SUTTON. Aug. 13, 1963 [May 17, 1962], No.19058/62. Heading G2C. An exposed and developed photographic silver halide emulsion is stabilized by treatment with a solution of ammonium or alkali-metal thiocyanate and a solution of a 4-aryl-2-hydroxy-tetronic acid or its imide, such as 4-sulphophenyl-2- hydroxy-tetronimide, in either order, or with a solution containing both the thiocyanate and tetronic acid or imide. The emulsion may contain a developer such as hydroquinone and be developed by treatment with alkali. The tetronic acid or imide prevents subsequent discolouration of the thiocyanate-stabilized image.
