titleOfInvention Pre-stressing of composite structures
abstract 1,057,859. Rolling. ALLM€NNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Dec. 3, 1963 [Dec. 5, 1962], No. 47618/63. Heading B3M. [Also in Divisions B5 and F2] In a method of accurately pre-stressing a composite structure, e.g. a press frame, a roll stand, or a motor frame, normally subject to an intermittent working load, the structure is statically loaded in a manner corresponding to the pattern of the normal working load, and at least one packing piece is inserted into any gaps produced between parts of the structure by said loading. A frame comprising semi-circular yokes 1, 2 held against the ends of pillars 3, 4 by a casing 5 of strips wound thereabout is pre-stressed by applying opposed forces P, P<SP>1</SP> to the yokes 1, 2 respectively, and inserting packing blocks 7 into the gaps 6 produced between the pillars and the yoke.
