abstract 1,056,472. Photographic masked tanning developing agents. AGFA A.G. May 5, 1964 [May 7, 1963, No.18657/64. Heading G2C. A heat-activated masked tanning developing agent of the formula:- wherein R1 is hydrogen and R2 is halogen, hydroxy, allyl, cycloalkyl or phenyl or, together with R3, forms a fused-on benzene ring, or R1 is hydroxy and R2 is hydrogen, and R3 is hydrogen or together with R2 forms a fused-on benzene ring, is used in transfer processes in which an exposed silver halide emulsion layer containing such a developing agent is developed by heating to 90‹-200‹C. in contact with a receiving sheet, or is developed by heating to 90-200‹C. and then brought into contact with the receiving sheet at 50-200‹C., either (a) the unexposed and undeveloped portions of the emulsion layer adhering to the receiving sheet or (b) a dye layer of the receiving sheet adhering to the unexposed and undeveloped portions of the emulsion layer. Moisture-supplying compounds may be present in the emulsion or in the receiving sheet. In (a) above, the receiving sheet may contain thiosemi-carbazides (see Specification 984, 838) or sulphur compounds and a sulphonyl hydrazide or a compound containing the group #-C-NH-N< (see Specification 1, 020, 066) to obtain an immediate black image or the emulsion may contain a leucophthalocyanine and the receiving sheet or reducing agent therefor to give a blue-black image.
