abstract | 1,053,631. Photographic silver halide materials and processes. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Jan.16, 1964 [Jan.16, 1963], No.1929/64. Heading G2C. [Also in Division C2] A photographic silver halide material contains a developer precursor of one of the formulae: - wherein R 1 and R 2 are hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, aryl, hydroxy, amino, or sulphonic acid groups or the group -SY (Y is a cyclic group), R 3 , R 4 , R 5 , R 6 , R 9 , R 10 , R 11 and R 12 are hydrogen, halogen, aryl or alkyl, R 7 and R 8 are hydrogen or alkyl groups of 1-4 carbon atoms and X represents two separate hydrogen atoms one on each of the positions shown, or a methylene or ethylene bridge which may be halogen-, aryl- or alkyl-substituted. The exposed materials are developed in alkaline solutions, in which the precursors become developing agents. The alkaline solutions may contain sulphite, or the alkali may be included in the silver halide material and development effected by treatment with water, steaming, or heating to liberate moisture contained in the material. The silver halide material may contain an auxiliary developer such as a 3-pyrazolidone. The cyclic group Y in the above formulae may be phenyl, naphthyl, 1-phenyl- 5-tetrazolyl or quinolinyl. The compounds act as tanning developers and unhardened areas may be washed off. Certain of the compounds also act as antifoggants. They may be dispersed in the material by means of high boiling organic solvents (see Specification 541,589). |
