abstract | 1,051,449. Sintered molybdenum carbide. PECHINEY COMPAGNIE DE PRODUITS CHIMIQUES ET ELECTROMETALLURGIQUES. Nov.4, 1963 [Nov.6, 1962; May 9, 1963], No.43418/63. Heading C7D. Sintered molybdenum carbide products are formed from a hot paste or slurry containing molybdenum carbide powder, 1-10% by weight of a natural or artificial wax such as beeswax or carnauba wax and 5-20% by volume of a saturated substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic hydrocarbon such as carbon tetrachloride or trichlorethylene, the hot paste being cast at 60C and then dried and sintered. Up to 70% by weight of crushed sintered molybdenum carbide grains 1-2 mm. in size may be included and the paste may be cast into a heated stationary mould or centrifugally cast. The casting may be drawn prior to sintering or the casting may be directly sintered to the finished form. The sintering is carried out in vacuo or a neutral atmosphere at a rate of temperature increase of 40C. /hour up to 1350C. and at 50-100C. / hour up to the final temperature of 1600 to 2300C. The sintering may be effected in a single stage or in two stages. Bars, rods and tubes may be produced. |
