titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to uranous nitrate preparations |
abstract | Uranous nitrate is made by electrolysis using as anolyte HNO3, and as catholyte uranyl nitrate solution in HNO3, and a little anti-oxidizing agent e.g. hydrazine, the two solutions being separated by a cationic membrane; the catholyte is drawn off when the uranous nitrate concentration is about half that of the original uranyl nitrate, and concentration of the latter is maintained during electrolysis at the starting level by continuously adding a solution of it in HNO3. An apparatus is described in which both solutions are cooled, and in addition the anolyte is homogenized and freed from gases by blowing in air. |
