titleOfInvention Dyeable polyolefin composition
abstract Group II B metal derivatives of bisphenol sulphides of formula <FORM:1049020/C2/1> where R is H or C1- 20 alkyl may be prepared by heating the bisphenolsulphide with a salt of the metal, preferably in an organic liquid medium. In examples, derivatives are prepared by refluxing in methanol zinc acetate dihydrate with (1) 2,21-thio bis-(4(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl) phenol), (3) 2,21-thiobisphenol, (4) 2,21-thiobis-(4-methylphenol) and (5) 2,21-thiobis-(4-nonylphenol); and cadmium acetate dihydrate, with (2) 2,21 - thiobis -(4(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)phenol).ALSO:Dyeable compositions comprise a crystalline polyolefine and a Group IIB metal derivative of a bisphenol sulphide of formula <FORM:1049020/C3/1> where R is H or C1- 20 alkyl. Specified polyolefines are polymers of ethylene, propylene, butene-1, 4-methylpentene-1 and styrene. The metal derivative may be the reaction product of a zinc or cadmium salt, e.g. zinc or cadmium acetate dihydrate, with 2,21-thiobisphenol, or (4-methyl)-, (4-nonyl)- or (4(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)) - phenol. The compositions may be formed into dyeable fibres, filaments, films, tapes and other shaped articles. Examples describe compositions comprising polypropylene, calcium stearate, trisnonylphosphite and titanium dioxide and the (1) zince and (2) cadmium derivatives of 2,21-thiobis(4(1,1,3,3 -tetramethylbutyl)phenol); and polypropylene and the zinc derivatives of (3) 2,21-thiobisphenol, (4) 2,21 - thiobis(4 - methyl)phenol and (5) 2,21-thiobis(4-nonyl)phenol.ALSO:Compositions and articles comprising a crystalline polyolefin and a Group II B metal derivative of a bisphenol sulphide of formula <FORM:1049020/D1-D2/1> where R is H or a C1-20 alkyl group may be dyed with disperse and chelating dyestuffs. The metal derivative may be incorporated in the polyolefin before or after shaping into such articles as fibres, films and tapes. Specified polyolefins are polymers of ethylene, propylene, butene-1, 4-methyl pentene-1 and styrene. Specified metal derivatives are zinc and cadmium derivatives of 2, 21-thiobisphenol and derivatives thereof in which R is methyl, n-nonyl and 1, 1, 3, 3-tetramethylbutyl. Examples describe the dyeing of polypropylene fibres containing (1) zinc and (2) cadmium derivatives of 2, 21-thiobis4 (1, 1, 3, 3-tetramethylbutyl) phenol; and zinc derivatives of (3) 2, 21-thiobisphenol, (4) 2, 21-thiobis (4-methyl) phenol and (5) 2, 21-thiobis (4-nonyl) phenol with many specified chelating and disperse dyes.
