titleOfInvention Anticoccidial compositions
abstract 2-Methylthio-4-nitrobenzoic acid may be prepared by reacting 2-thiocyano-4-nitrobenzoic acid in methanolic potassium hydroxide with methyl iodide.ALSO:Compounds of the formula <FORM:1046947/A5-A6/1> wherein X is an oxygen or sulphur atom, R is a C1-C5 alkyl radical or a C1-C5 alkenyl radical and R1 is a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon radical having fewer than 8 carbon atoms, or an equivalent of a metal, are employed for preventing and controlling coccidiosis by administering them to poultry, in admixture with a poultry feedstuff e.g. the drinking water or the feed of the birds, in amount from 0.0005% to 0.0125% by weight. These 4-nitro benzoic acid compounds may be used with other coccidiostats, and with pharmaceutically acceptable carriers. Specified examples of such known coccidiostats are amprolium, nicarbazin, glycarbyl amide, 3, 5-dinitrobenzamide and 2-methyl-3, 5-dinitrobenzamide.
