titleOfInvention Thermally-operated electric power relay
abstract 1,046,807. Protective arrangements; thermal switches. ALLM€NNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Aug. 14, 1963 [Aug. 16, 1962], No. 32063/63. Headings H2B and H2K. A power relay comprises two bi-metallic elements one of which is heated by a current proportional to V + kI and the other by a current proportional to V - kI, where k is a constant and V and I are the voltage and current of the protected circuit. One bimetallic element carries U-shaped members with adjustable contacts which co-operate with contacts carried by the other bi-metallic element to complete circuits for signals or other devices. It is stated that the relative movement between the bi-metallic elements is proportional to VI cos #, when I lags V by the phase angle # and that the relay may be used as a reverse power relay.
