titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of fluorochloromethanes |
abstract | Fluorochloromethanes are obtained by the catalytic reaction between methane, chlorine and hydrogen fluoride in two different zones, one operated at 350-500 DEG C., where mainly chlorination occurs, and the other operated at 200-350 DEG C. where mainly fluorination occurs, either zone coming first; in the presence of a gaseous recycling mixture comprising one or more chlorinated or chlorofluorinated compounds which are intermediates, main products or by-products. The higher temperature zone may contain active carbon and/or a halide of a metal of variable valency as catalyst, and the lower temperature zone may contain a metal oxide or salt as catalyst. Specified products for recycle are CCl4, CHCl3, CH2Cl2, CH3Cl, CFCl3, CF2Cl2, CF3Cl, CHFCl2, CHF2Cl, C2Cl4, C2Cl6 and C2HCl3. The main recovered products in examples are CF2Cl2 and CFCl3. |
