titleOfInvention Process for the purification of hexamethylenediamine
abstract A first process for the purification of liquid hexamethylene diamine comprises thoroughly and completely mixing liquid hexamethylene diamine containing dissolved ammonia and polarographically reducible impurities with carbon dioxide and a gas inert to said hexamethylene diamine, the amount of carbon dioxide used for said mixing being from 0.5 to 10 cubic feet per 1000 pounds of hexamethylene diamine mixed and the amount of gas inert to hexamethylene diamine used for said mixing being from 0.001 to 15 cubic feet per pound of hexamethylene diamine mixed. A second, continuous process for the purification of refined hexamethylene diamine comprises distilling hexamethylene diamine in a distillation zone and condensing the resulting vaporous hexamethylene diamine as a final product, the hexamethylene diamine being contacted during said distillation with from 0.5 to 10 cubic feet of carbon dioxide per 1000 pounds of hexamethylene diamine and with from 0.001 to 15 cubic feet of a gas inert to said hexamethylene diamine per pound of hexamethylene diamine.
