titleOfInvention | Chromenols and their derivatives |
abstract | The oxidation of various animal and vegetable fats and oils may be inhibited by the use of compounds of the general formula <FORM:1040175/C4-C5/1> or the phosphate, dibenzylphosphate or C1- 6 alkanoate esters thereof, in which R and R1 are both methyl or both methoxy or are joined to form a -CH = CH-CH = CH- radical and R2 is a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon radical containing up to 45 carbon atoms. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 877,960.ALSO:Compounds of the general formula <FORM:1040175/C2/1> wherein R and R1 are both methyl or both methoxy or are joined to form a -CH = CH-CH = CH- radical, and R2 represents hydrogen or a hydrocarbon group having up to 45 carbon atoms, are prepared by intimately contacting a quinone of the general formula <FORM:1040175/C2/2> in which R, R1 and R2 are as defined above, with sodium hydride under anhydrous conditions. The chromenols may be esterified by treatment with a C1- 6 alkanoic acid anhydride, dibenzylchlorophosphonate, or phosphorus oxychloride followed by acid hydrolysis. The invention also comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:1040175/C2/3> wherein -OR3 is a C1- 6 alkanoyloxy radical, or the hydroxy, phosphate or dibenzylphosphate radical. Examples are given. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 877,960. |
