abstract 1,039,659. Harvesting peas and beans. MATHER & PLATT Ltd. July 24, 1963 [Aug. 2, 1962], No. 29699/62. Heading A1F. A machine for harvesting legumes comprises a frame 3 supporting one or more drums 5, 6 for the treatment of the gathered crop which require to be maintained horizontal during operation of the machine over undulating terrain, there being means 8 for feeding the crop to the drums, level-detecting means (Fig. 2) for sensing deviations, from the horizontal, of the drum axes, and means 12 interposed between the frame 3 and the ground wheels or parts connected thereto for automatically correcting deviations of the axes from the horizontal in response to the output from the level-detecting means. In Fig. 1, the drums 5, 6 are mounted on a sub-frame 3 pivoted to a main wheeled frame 1 about an axis 4. The frame 1 is connected to a tractor 2 and supports the sub-frame 3 by a pair of jacks 12 near the rear end. A conveyer 8 extends from the drums 5, 6 towards gathering means 7 for the crop, being connected to the main frame by pin and slot connections 9, 10. The leveldetecting means (Fig. 2) comprises a U-tube 14, containing mercury 13, and a pair of electrodes 15 connected to a solonoid 18 controlling the feeding of pressure-fluid to the jacks 12. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the drums 5, 6 are mounted directly on the main frame, the rams being then connected between the frame and the ground-wheels.
