titleOfInvention Process for the production of pyrethic acid
abstract Pyrethric acid in a purified state, is prepared by heating t-butyl pyrethrate at 180-350 DEG C. The t-butyl pyrethrate is preferably obtained in a series of steps from t-butyl chrysanthemum mono-carboxylate which is oxidized with selenium dioxide or selenious acid to t-butyl 2,2 - dimethyl - 3 - (21 - formyl - 11 - propanyl) -cyclopropane-carboxylate, which is oxidized in the presence of a copper salt or silver oxide to 2 - methyl - 3 - (21, 21 - dimethyl - 31 - t - butoxycarbonyl - cyclopropyl) - acrylic acid which is methylated e.g. under alkaline conditions with diazomethane or dimethyl sulphate, to the t-butyl pyrethrate.
