titleOfInvention | Method of producing n-methyleneglycinonitrile |
abstract | N-Methyleneglycinonitrile, which is said to be a cyclic trimer, is prepared by a continuous method which comprises (a) continuously introducing aqueous solutions of HCN, NH3 and CH2O in the ratios 1 HCN: 1-2 NH3: 1.8-3.5 CH2O into a reaction zone containing an aqueous reaction mass which is maintained at 10-60 DEG C., and pH not more than 7.0 by the use of acid, the combined charge to the reaction zone containing 70-85% by weight of water; (b) strongly agitating the reaction mass while fresh HCN, NH3 and CH2O are introduced as aqueous solutions; (c) continuously withdrawing a portion of the reaction mass from the reaction zone; and (d) isolating the product from the withdrawn portion. |
