titleOfInvention Metal coating process
abstract In a process of coating and elongated metal substrate e.g sheet, strip, wire or rod, a first coating of a colloidal solution of a suitable metal hydroxide is applied followed by a coating of a powdered material such as a metal or metal oxide, the coating is dried and then rolled and heated to form a sintered coating. The suitable hydroxides are Al(OH)3; Zn(OH)2; Ni(OH)2; FeOH)3; Cr(OH)3; Mg(OH)2 and Mn(OH)2 and the powdered coating material may be Al, Sn, Ni, Zn, Fe, steel or brass or Al2O3. The hydroxide coating may be applied by dipping, spraying or rolling the substrate into an aqueous colloidal solution containing 2-5 g/l of the hydroxide and the metal or metal oxide powder may be applied by the rotating metering roll described in Specification 1,035,256. After drying at 100 DEG -300 DEG C. and rolling to effect 1/2 -5% elongation the powder layer is sintered at 250 DEG -650 DEG C. for aluminium or 700 DEG -1000 DEG C. for nickel. The colloidal aqueous solution of the hydroxide is formed by electrolysis of an aqueous solution of a soluble salt of the metal.ALSO:In a process of coating an elongated metal substrate e.g sheet, strip, wire or rod, a first coating of a colloidal solution of a suitable metal hydroxide is applied followed by a coating of a powdered material such as a metal or metal oxide, the coating is dried and then rolled and heated to form a sintered coating.
