abstract | The invention comprises mephenesine acetyl salicylate of the formula:- It may be obtained by reacting mephenesine in solution in pyridine with acetyl salicyloyl chloride. Acetylsalicyloyl chloride (aspirin chloride) may be obtained by treating aspirin with thionyl chloride and distilling the mixture. The compound of the above formula may be used in association with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier as a muscle relaxant and as a local anaesthetic. Specified carriers are paraffin oil, "Vaseline" (Trade Mark), polyethylene glycol (M.W. 1500), propylene glycol monostearate and methyl p-hydroxybenzoate. |
