abstract | A trimethylamine-sulphur trioxide complex is prepared by reacting, in the gaseous phase, trimethylamine and sulphur trioxide vapour in the pressure of an inert gaseous diluent. At reaction temperatures of 33 DEG C. or below the inert gaseous diluent is present at least in sufficient quantity to prevent condensation of the sulphur trioxide; at reaction temperatures above 33 DEG C. the diluent is present in more than sufficient quantity to prevent condensation of the sulphur trioxide. |
