titleOfInvention | New steroid compounds, compositions incorporating them and processes for their preparation |
abstract | The invention comprises 8-iso-17a -ethynyl-estra-1,3,5(10) -triene derivatives having the general formula <FORM:1029325/C2/1> in which R1 and R2 are the same or different and each represents H, alkyl (1-6 carbon atoms), or an acyl group derived from an organic carboxylic acid having 1-18 carbon atoms, and the preparation thereof by reacting 8-iso-estrone with an acetylide, e.g. potassium acetylide or ethynyl magnesium chloride. The alkyl ethers are obtained by treating 8-iso-17a -ethynyl-estra - 1,3,5(10) - triene derivatives with an alkylating agent. Pharmaceutical compositions having estrogenic activity and containing the above compounds are administered orally as tablets, pills, capsules, cachets, powders, syrups, and elixirs, by injection as sterile solutions or suspensions, rectally as a suppository or topically as an implant or ointment. |
