titleOfInvention Preparation of polyolefins
abstract A hydrogen shift polymerization of a olefines such as ethylene and propylene is carried out in an inert solvent for a catalyst comprising vanadium tetrachloride iron acetyl acetonate and a group 1-3 organo metallic compound at a temperature between the freezing and boiling points of the solvent and pressure from atmospheric to 100 hg/sq. cm. Solvents exemplified are hydrocarbons and halogenated hydrocarbons. The polymer may be a homo- or copolymer according to the conditions chosen, and the polymer may be fractionated by solvent extraction.ALSO:An olefine polymerization catalyst comprises vanadium tetrachloride, iron acetyl acetonate and an organometallic compound of a group I to III metal such as triethyl or tri-isobutyl aluminium, diethyl or di(m-butyl) aluminium chlorides, butyl sodium, butyl or ethyl lithium, diethyl zinc or dibutyl cadmium.
