titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to d-homo steroids
abstract The invention comprises D-homo-aromatic steroids having the formula: <FORM:1027618/C2/1> wherein R and R4 are H, OH, O-alkyl, O-cycloalkyl (containing up to 12 carbon atoms) or lower alkyl (containing up to 3 carbon atoms) and may be the same or different, R1 is H or a lower alkyl group containing up to 3 carbon atoms, R2 is H, lower alkyl containing up to three carbon atoms, halogen CH2OH or CF3 and wherein additional double bonds may be present in ring B and lower alkyl or methylene groups may be present in rings B, C and D, and the preparation thereof by condensing the corresponding D-homo-17a -oxo steroid having the formula: <FORM:1027618/C2/2> with metallic, including Grignard types of metallic, derivatives of the appropriate ethyne, e.g. with sodium chloracetylide in liquid ammonia or trifluopropynylmagnesium bromide in ether-tetrahydrofuran. Pharmaceutical compositions valuable as claudogenic agents and containing the above compounds are administered orally as suspensions or tablets, or as injections or suppositories.
