titleOfInvention Hardening photographic silver halide emulsions
abstract 1,025,796. Photographic emulsions. GENERAL ANILINE & FILM CORPORATION. Jan. 10, 1963 [Jan. 11,1962], No. 1177/62. Heading G2C. Gelatin silver halide emulsions contain as hardening agents an imidazolone of formula where X is or -OH, R 1 and R 2 are hydrogen or alkyl or together represent a piperidine, morpholino or a thiamorpholino radical and Z together with the two carbon atoms is an aryl, substituted aryl or piperidino radical. Specified imidazolones are those wherein Z is benzyl, 2-methoxy benzyl, 2- phenyl benzyl, 2-methyl benzyl, 2-nitrobenzyl; 4, 5 benzo-benzyl and piperidyl, X is diethylamino, piperidino, thiamorpholino and morpholino or hydroxy where R 1 and R 2 is ethyl. Formaldehyde may also be added to the emulsion to enhance the hardening effect.
