A dragee coating contains from 0.7 to 14.3% of a vinyl polymer in addition to a sugar and any other desired additives. The vinyl polymer may be polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyvinyl acetate, a copolymer of vinyl pyrrolidone-vinyl acetate, polyvinyl alcohol and/or a copolymer of vinyl alcoholvinyl acetate. The sugar may be sucrose, glucose, sorbitol or mannitol. Cellulose derivatives e.g. methyl cellulose, starch, pigments, polishing agents, binders, plasticisers, or preservatives may be present in the coating. The dragee cone, which may contain a steroid or pyridoxine hydrochloride, is coated with a coating suspension containing 0.5 to 10.0% of vinyl polymer by conventional techniques. The suspension can be used on cones which have been precoated with a layer of varnish resistant to gastric juices. |
