abstract | An antiserum comprises a serum containing antibodies and/or antitoxins and chlorpheniramine or diphenyl-pyraline in the form of a water-soluable salt, the latter antihistamines being present in an amount effective to prevent allergic reaction on administration of the antiserum. Cholorpheniramine maleate or diphenyl-pyraline hydrochloride are preferably used. The above antihistamines may be added to swine Erysipelas Antiserum-made in horses immunised against Erysipelothrix rysiopathiae; E. coli Antiserum (porcine)-prepared in horses immunised with strains of E. coli isolated from pigs; and Tetanus Antiserum-made by immunising horses or other animals against toxins of Clostridium tetani. The antihistamines is preferably added to the antiserum as a solution in physiological saline. |
