titleOfInvention | Catalyst preparation and use |
abstract | Ethylene and propylene yield straight chain butenes and hexenes respectively in the presence of a catalyst comprising Co or Ni on activated carbon which has been prepared by contacting the carbon (pretreating with HNO3) with aqueous Co(No3)2 on Ni(No3)2, removin substantially all the water and suspending the impregnated carbon in a fluidized bed under increasing temperature conditions, saturating with water at 180-220 DEG C. and heating at up to 300 DEG C. to decompose the salt. Propylene for example is pressurized at 680 p.s.i.g. at 40 DEG C. for 21 3/4 hours in an autoclave.ALSO:In a process for the preparation of catalysts comprising Co or Ni and activated carbon, the activated carbon is pretreated with HNO3, impregnated with aqueous Co(NO3)2 or Ni(NO3)2, all of the water therein is removed, the carbon is suspended in a fluidized bed by means of inert gas under conditions of increasing temperature, the bed is saturated with water when the temperature reaches 180-220 DEG C., the heating is continued until all the water has been removed and thereafter the temperature is raised to not more than 300 DEG C. to complete salt decomposition. The catalyst may contain 5-30% metal or carbon. The carbon may be 8-12 mesh coconut charcoal. |
