titleOfInvention New derivatives of glycyrrhetinic acid
abstract The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:1022869/C2/1> where R is an alkyl radical and R1 is an alkyl radical which may contain one or more free carboxylic acid groups and the salts of those compounds in which R1 contains one or more free carboxylic acid groups; and the preparation thereof by esterifying the carboxylic acid group of the glycyrretinic acid using a diazoalkane and then acylating the hydroxyl group of the resulting glycyrretinic acid ester using the required anhydrous mono- or polycarboxylic acids or the anhydrides or acid halides thereof and, when desired, neutralizing with an alkali to produce a salt. In the case where R1 is an unsubstituted alkyl group the acylation may precede the esterification.
