titleOfInvention Insulating refrigeration tank structure
abstract 1,022,688. Liquefied gas containers. ALUMISEAL CORPORATION. Nov. 2, 1962, No. 41593/62. Heading F4P. The air insulation space between a liquefied gas tank 11, Fig. 2 (not shown), having one or more side walls 31 and a domed top, and a surrounding shell 30, 77, Fig. 6 (not shown), formed of sheets of reflective metal, e.g. aluminium supported by an inner wooden framework and externally hermetically sealed at their abutting or overlapping edges is divided into one or more compartments, e.g. wall compartments 46, 48, 54, 57, 45 and roof compartments 79 by reflective metal sheets also supported by wooden frameworks and non-hermetically sealed at their adjacent edges to form continuous shells 26 . . . 29, 71, 70 and the inner compartments 46, 79 are connected to ambient atmosphere by valved vent ducts 88, 89 through which condensed moisture may be drained and drying air circulated. The supporting frame for the inner shell 26 comprises vertically spaced 25 and circumferentially spaced uprights 20 each of which is connected to the tank wall 31 by an expansion bolt 37, Fig. 5 (not shown). Shells 27 . . . 29 are supported by uprights 19, 18, 17, 16 and by cross-beams 24, 23, 22, 21 and the abutting edges of sheets 58, 59 forming the outer shell 30 are hermetically sealed to the exterior of uprights 16 by means of ductile adhesive tape 60, Fig. 4 (not shown), held by channel-sectioned screw clamps 61, 62 filled with caulking compound 64. The roof shells 70, 71, 77 are similarly supported by wooden frame members 67, 68, 69 and 73, 74, Fig. 1 (not shown); the inner frame members being secured to the upper face of the domed roof of the tank by expansion bolts 72, Fig. 7 (not shown). The peripheral edge of the outer roof shell 77 overlaps and is sealed to the upper end of the outer side of shell 30 and the annular space 76 formed between the tank and the junction of the shells 77, 30 is filled with conventional solid insulation. The base of the tank 11 is embedded in concrete 15.
