titleOfInvention | Novel polymers and their use as mordants |
abstract | Polymers having the group <FORM:1022207/C3/1> bound to some or all the monomeric units are used in photographic materials (see Division G2). R and R1 are each an alkyl, aryl or aryl-alkyl group or together complete a 5 or 6 member heterocyclic ring and X- is the anion of an organic or inorganic acid. Such polymers may be obtained by quaternizing a disubstituted asymmetric hydrazine <FORM:1022207/C3/2> using either a polymer containing mobile halogen R11-CH2-Ha or repeated 1,2-epoxy groups <FORM:1022207/C3/3> R11 being the residue of the polymer chain. Specified halogen-containing polymers are these obtained by reacting monochloromethyl ether in the presence of zinc chloride with polymers or copolymers of styrene, -methylstyrene, o-, m- and p-alkyl styrenes, vinylnaphthalene and acenaphthalene or with indene-coumarone or phenol- or naphthol-aldehyde resins; also homo- or co-polymers of vinyl chloroacetate and chloroalkyl acrylates and alkacrylates. Specified epoxy polymers are homo-and co-polymers of allyl glycidyl ether; glycidyl acrylate, methacrylate and crotonate; butadiene monoxide and vinylcyclohexene monoxide. Specified hydrazines are 1,1-dimethyl-, 1-ethyl-1-methyl-, 1-ethyl-1-phenylethyl-, 1-methyl-1-phenyl- and 1-cyclohexyl-1-ethyl hydrazines and 1-amino-pyrrolidine, -morpholine, or -piperidine. The polymers may be cross-linked between their NH2 groups by treatment with aldehydes, di-aldehydes, poly-aldehydes, di-and poly-epoxides and dimethylolurea. |
