titleOfInvention Novel dye compositions
abstract A composition comprising an acetate dye, an aryl glycol ether of the formula: Ar(OCH2CHR)n-OH wherein R is H or methyl, Ar is an aromatic, hydrocarbon of the benzene series and n is 1 or 2, and a di- or tri-chlorobenzene is emulsified in water and hydrophobic fibres are dyed therewith. The dyes for use in these compositions should be substantially free of dispersing agents. The dyes may be dissolved in the solvent mixture which may also contain oleic acid at 90 DEG C. and filtered prior to dispersing in water containing an anionic emulsifying agent. These oil-in-water emulsions may be used as dyebaths in beck or package dyeing or as pad-liquors in a continuous pad-steam process. Sodium alginate may also be used in the dye emulsions. The materials to be dyed are especially aromatic polyesters but may also be cellulose acetate and triacetate, polyamides, p polyacrylonitrile, polypropylene or blends thereof with natural fibres, e.g. polyester/cotton and polyester/wool blends. Examples are given.
